Workshop helps you to help yourself

The programme is aimed at helping the unemployed and vulnerable groups to find ways to operate in the economy.

UNEMPLOYED and disabled woman and young people from Ugu district gathered at a three-day Wonder Bag training programme at the Ugu Sport Leisure Centre last week.

They were trained to make ‘wonder-cooker’ bags which are thermally insulated and an effective, cost-effective way of cooking. They were also given equipment and coached on business skills.

“The programme is aimed at helping the unemployed and vulnerable groups to find ways to operate in the economy,” said municipal spokesman Sipho Khuzwayo.

Ugu Mayor Ntombifikile Gumede encouraged the group to embrace the project and make it work for them.

“The economy in our district grows at a snail’s pace. We have huge unemployment and poverty. We hope these initiatives will go a long way to help.”

The programme is sponsored by the KZN office of the Premier and Department of Economic Development.
