Oh-mo! I’ve been scammed

Don't be fooled by this bogus sms competition.

DO not disclose your financial details to anyone you do not know.

This advice comes from a Unilever spokesman, who has issued a warning about a fraudulent competition scam. According to the spokesman consumers were receiving sms messages informing them they had been awarded large sums of money in a promotion run by the company’s Omo brand.

The spokesman said the company would never request consumers to deposit money after winning a competition. In case of any sms contest run by Unilever, the company would not require a winner to send banking details via sms. All winners would be contacted by Unilever representatives individually.

“If personal or financial details are requested, we recommend that you do not give them to anyone you do not know,” the spokesman said.

While Unilever brands ran sms competitions from time to time they were fully branded and recognisable as such.

Unilever is a manufacturer of brands like Sunlight, Skip, Omo, Knorr and Robertson spices.
