Rotary district governor visits

Clubs were urged to continue supplying service and support to their communities.

LOCAL Rotarians were pleased to welcome their district governor, Andrew Jaegar, and assistant district governor, Gavin Jepson, at a recent gathering of members of clubs within the Rotary District 9370.

This is a district in which the South Coast Rotarians operate. It includes the Rotary Clubs of Port Shepstone, Shelly Beach, Hibiscus Coast (combining Margate and Uvongo) and the newly formed Rotary Satellite Club of Hibiscus Coast – South, based in Southbroom.

The district governor spent last Friday and Saturday in the area, visiting one of each club’s community service projects. On Friday he started with Reinhardt’s Place, a home for the severely mentally challenged. A Rotary Club of Shelly Beach project, members of this club provide assistance to the home wherever possible.

He then visited the Thuthuzela Care Centre at the Port Shepstone Regional Hospital. This centre receives assistance in various forms from Port Shepstone Rotarians and Rotary Anns. The next day, Mr Jaegar paid a call to the lively and long-running Uvongo Flea Market. This is run by the Rotary Club of Hibiscus Coast and funds raised through the market are used for many of the club’s projects.

On the Friday evening a joint assembly of members of the four clubs together with partners and guests was held at Hillbillion Estate in Oslo Beach. Mr Jaeger addressed the assembly and urged the clubs to continue supplying the desperately needed service and support to the needy in their communities.

During the evening he also handed over two community service awards, presented by the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone, to Monique Rutter and Linda Hansell, who have assisted this club on an ongoing basis with various projects, freely giving of their time and effort.

Overall the district governor was extremely pleased with the clubs’ efforts and achievements and wished them well for the future.
