A MAN (64) from Betania, near Izotsha was arrested last Wednesday by Margate police for allegedly raping his 11-year-old daughter.
The matter came to light in December last year, when the girl told an aunt about her ordeal. Investigations indicated that the man started raping his daughter in January last year.
“According to a statement by the girl her father raped her almost every day (until November),” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.
The man appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on Monday this week. The case was postponed to this Friday, January 30. He remains in police custody.
“We are appealing to the community to report crimes of this nature which occur within the family environment to the police immediately. We have found that in some cases, people are reluctant to report crimes of a sexual nature as they are usually threatened by the perpetrator. The only way we can stop these crimes is when the person is exposed and arrested,” said Capt Mfeka.
The case is being investigated by the Margate Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).
