Update: Middleton trial postponed to February

The defence team had to wait for funds to become available.

FORMER high ranking traffic officer Dave Middleton’s trial was this morning postponed to next month at the request of defence attorney, Xolilie Ntshulana.

Mr Ntshulana said advocate Jimmy Howse needed more time to prepare for trial.

He added that Middleton had been unable to confirm if he could pay the legal fees on time, but that funds had become available the evening before the trial was to begin.

“If we had come to court unprepared, it would have done injustice to the case,” he said.

Magistrate Johann Bester concluded that Middleton would have not be able to conduct his own defence in a matter of this complicated nature, and he would then have had to postpone the trial in order for Middleton to obtain other legal representation.
