Merlewood man arrested for drugs

The estimated value of the drugs is R29 090.

A MAN (40) from Merlewood was arrested and charged for possession of drugs at his house last week.

Police officers from Public Order Policing (POP) in Port Shepstone went to a house in Merlewood after receiving certain information.

Police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said 703 straws of heroin, nine Mandrax tablets and a certain substance, suspected to be crack cocaine, were also found on the property.

“The drugs will be forwarded to the forensic science laboratory for analysis. The estimated value of the drugs is R29 090,” said Lt-Col Wiid.

The man has appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court.

Police Constable Sipho Mnguni, who made the arrest, was assisted by Cst Bongiwe Ngcobo, Cst Mduduzi Makhaye, Cst Nontobeko Mabida, Cst Fortunate Madlala, Cst Lorraine Mtimkulu and Cst Musawenkosi Sikhosanna.

The same officers also arrested a 20-year-old man at the taxi rank who was found with 21 straws of heroin and 1 Mandrax tablet and has also appeared in court for possession of drugs.
