Cop shoots girlfriend, then himself

The policeman's official firearm was found next to his body.

A POLICE constable shot dead his policewoman girlfriend before turning the gun on himself in Mahwaqa Ward, Dududu last Friday.

Constable Lindiwe Nomfundo Xulu (31) was killed, allegedly by her boyfriend, Constable Hopewell Samkele Ngcobo (34), at around 10pm.

Both were stationed at the Dududu SAPS and were off duty at the time of the incident.

“Cst Ngcobo arrived at Constable Xulu’s home on Friday night. He phoned her and asked her to come outside and meet him at his car,” said police spokesman, Captain Vincent Pandarum.

“A short while later, gunshots were heard and when relatives went outside to investigate, they found Cst Xulu dead, having been shot several times. Cst Ngcobo had already fled in his vehicle.

“Cst Ngcobo’s body was discovered the next morning at the Landers loading zone on the nearby Glenroy farm, with his official police 9mm pistol lying beside to him. The motive for the shootings is yet to be established,” said Capt Pandarum.

Dududu SAPS has registered a case of murder and an inquest docket has been opened. Both cases will be investigated by the Port Shepstone Organised Crime Unit.
