Update: Dave Middleton in the witness box

He is facing a string of charges.

FORMER traffic chief, Dave Middleton has been testifying in the Port Shepstone Regional Court in the ‘trial within a trial’ since yesterday.

Mr Middleton is facing a string of charges including two counts of rape, various counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual grooming of a child, display and exposure of child pornography and intimidation.

When cross-examined by state prosecutor Muziwoduma Miza this morning regarding the photographs that were allegedly on his phone, Mr Middleton denied that the photographs were his. “They are not mine, the photographs,” he said.

And when asked if he had a problem that the complainant, one of the victims’ mother, had transferred the photographs from his phone to her phone, Mr Middleton said, “Yes, I do, she had no right to do that”.

He added that he had always welcomed the woman and her daughter into his home, but that she was ‘overbearing and intrusive’.

He also told the court that his attorney at the time was not aware that the police would search his home after he was arrested. Mr Middleton said the police had seized many of his personal belongings.

Mr Middleton’s partner took to the stand to testify this afternoon. The case was postponed until tomorrow morning.  CLICK HERE TO READ MORE ON THE CASE
