Update: MEC addresses angry N2 protesters

The N2 remains closed between the Marburg traffic lights and Murchison Hospital.

KZN Transport, Community Safety and Liaison MEC, Willies Mchunu is addressing a crowd of angry KwaMbayiMbayi residents who have gathered on the N2 in Murchison.

The service delivery protest has entered its third day, with protesters singing and chanting struggle songs. They are also demanding the release of two people who were arrested for public violence by Public Order Policing (POP) members yesterday.

A media statement indicated that MEC Mchunu would also visit the family of a protester who was allegedly killed in an confrontation with the police earlier this week.

The freeway remains closed between the Marburg traffic lights and Murchison Hospital as the residents continue to burn tyres and debris is placed on the road.
