Tweni accident claims a life

Paramedics were busy last weekend.

A MAN died and another was seriously injured in a head-on collision on the R102 in Umtentweni last Saturday night.

Netcare 911 spokesman, Chris Botha, said paramedics arrived at the scene and found the road strewn with accident debris, including the twisted frames of the vehicles.

“One of the occupants was ejected from the vehicle and was found on the road with life threatening injuries. The other patient was found on the side of the road with serious injuries,” he said.

Paramedics worked to resuscitate the critically injured man for some time. However, despite their efforts, he died at the scene. The other man was taken to hospital.

Earlier the same day, a man was left in a critical condition after he was crushed against the armco barriers on the R61, Seaslopes Road in Margate, by a truck.

“Netcare 911 paramedics found the man lying on the ground with life threatening injuries,” said Mr Botha. He was taken to Port Shepstone Regional Hospital.

In another incident, a minibus rolled 100 metres down an embankment in Umzinto.

Emergency Medical Services spokesman Robert Mckenzie said paramedics and firefighters had to search the thick brush to find the people who had been ejected from the vehicle.

Eleven people were treated for injuries, ranging from critical to minor. Some were taken to GJ Crookes Hospital for further treatment.
