Drugs, fake bank notes seized in Margate

Four people were arrested for the two offences.

MARGATE police arrested a Ugandan national for being in possession of counterfeit money in Margate last Tuesday.

Police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka said Detective Sergeant Michelle van Niekerk and Warrant Officer Petro de Wit received an anonymous tip-off about the counterfeit money and went to a house in Margate.

“They questioned a Ugandan man carrying a black briefcase.  The sum of R600 in counterfeit notes was seized from the man. Kasitt Muhammed (39) was arrested,” said Capt Mfeka.

He appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court last Thursday and the case was postponed to this Friday, June 13. He was denied bail.

On Saturday, June 7,  Margate police arrested Joelene Bam (30), Marianne Bezuidenhout (52) and Daniël Bester (41) for being in possession of drugs.

“One hundred straws of heroin, two packets of a designer version of cocaine, known simply as ‘Cat’ and dagga were also seized,” said Capt Mfeka.

They appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on Monday this week and the case was postponed to June 17. All three remain in custody.
