Women raped, robbed

Police are investigating two separate rape cases.

TWO women were raped in two separate incidents last weekend. A 22-year-old woman was raped while walking home to Nkulu Ward, Gamalakhe with her friend in the early hours of last Saturday.

“According to the women, when they noticed a man following them they decided to turn back to a house in Fresh Gcaba Road,” said police spokesman, Captain Gerald Mfeka.

“While they were walking back, the man began throwing stones at them.  One of the women managed to escape but the 22-year-old  was caught and raped repeatedly. The man fled, taking her cellphone.

Gamalakhe police are investigating a rape and common robbery case. No arrests have been made.

In the second incident, another 22-year-old woman was raped along the Izingolweni Road  in Port Edward last Sunday.

The woman and her boyfriend were apparently returning from a tavern when they were confronted by two armed men.

“The boyfriend was held at knifepoint by one of the men, while the other raped the woman. The men fled, taking nothing,” said Captain Mfeka.
