Elderly woman attacked at home

The pensioner was grabbed by the throat and threatened with a knife and knobkierie.

AN Elysium woman was attacked by two armed men at her home near Hibberdene yesterday (Wednesday).

Police were called out to her house at about 7am after the woman pressed the panic button.

“According to the 75-year-old victim, she was busy hanging out her washing and when she went back inside her house, two men appeared from her bedroom,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

The men threatened her with a knife and knobkierie. They then grabbed her by the throat and demanded cash and cellphones. The intruders fled with her handbag once the woman had managed to press the panic button,” said Lt-Col Wiid.

Her handbag contained cash and personal documents. A house robbery case is being investigated.

“Residents are warned to be very cautious and always alert as to their surroundings. Check for unknown people loitering around and immediately contact the police or security officials if someone seems to be suspicious,” warned Lt-Col Wiid.
