Shots fired on N2

Two shots were fired at the victim, both of which missed their target.

AN Ezinqoleni tavern owner survived being shot at during an armed robbery on the N2 at Nqabeni on Tuesday morning this week.

Police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka said the victim had been travelling towards Port Shepstone in his bakkie when a man on the side of the road opened fire, shooting out one of the bakkie’s tyres.

“The vehicle came to a stop, the gunman approached the driver, and they fought. The tavern owner claims his assailant fired two shots, which missed him.

“While the two men tussled another armed man appeared and demanded money from the passenger in the bakkie. When this was handed over, he fled.  Once the first gunman noticed that his partner had the money, he too fled into the bushes,” said Captain Mfeka.

Neither the tavern owner nor his passenger were injured. No arrests have been made and Ezingolweni police are investigating.
