Do not touch political posters

It is a criminal offence to deface or remove the posters.

THE Independent Electoral Commission’s provincial manager Ntombifuthi Masinga urged political parties to report any defacing or removal of political posters to the police.

Her message comes after the Democratic Alliance’s eThekwini caucus leader Zwakele Mncwango accused ANC supporters of placing their party posters over the DA posters in Newlands, KwaMashu and Umlazi.

According to the municipal by-law, political parties are allowed to have one poster per pole, and that posters should be placed above or below other posters which are already on the pole.

Masinga urged the DA to report the matter to the police.

“If this has happened, then it is a criminal offence. Not only have the municipal by-laws been broken, but also the electoral code of conduct.”
