Dave Middleton resigns

He has taken early retirement, effective from the end of February.

THE case involving senior officer Superintendent Dave Middleton (58) from Hibiscus Coast Protection Services took a new turn this week when he applied for early retirement. Spokesman for the Hibiscus Coast Municipality Khanyiso Seyisi confirmed Supt Middleton’s resignation yesterday (Wednesday).

“Superintendent Middleton has applied for an early retirement pension and the municipality has accepted and approved the application,” said Mr Seyisi. He added that the retirement would be effective as from the end of February.

Supt Middleton was transferred to Westville prison in Durban after his last court appearance in January, at which his attorney Larry Seethal from Seethal Attorneys informed the court that he had withdrawn from the case. The case was postponed to July 28 for trial.

Supt Middleton faces 15 charges, including two counts of rape, various counts of sexual assault, two counts of sexual grooming of a child, display and exposure of child pornography and intimidation.

The court heard that the state is still waiting for the forensic evidence from the computer equipment which was confiscated from Supt Middleton after his arrest. As a result, he will appear in court on June 13 for ‘final discovery’.

Supt Middleton has been employed at the municipality for 20 years.
