Quick arrest after stabbing

The man was still in possession of the blood-soaked jacket he was wearing at the time of the stabbing and his shoes were covered in blood.

AN argument over a cellphone led to a 35-year-old man being stabbed to death at Mkholombe in Boboyi on December 22.

The man allegedly responsible for the murder was arrested just hours after he had fled the scene and went drinking at a nearby tavern.

“It is believed that Eric Sibiya (35) and Ntokozo Singqo (23) had argued over a cellphone,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

She said Singqo had allegedly stabbed Sibiya several times and then fled. “Police searched the area, but could not locate the man at first,” she said.

Warrant Officer Ettienne Grantham and Constable Oscar Msomi responded to information and went to the tavern where they arrested the man.

More officers were called for back-up as the tavern was packed with patrons.

The man was still in possession of the blood-soaked jacket he was wearing at the time of the stabbing and his shoes were covered in blood.

He was charged with murder and appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court. The case was postponed to January 18 for further investigation.
