REGIONAL Independent Electoral Commission supervisor Sphiwe Yeni has revealed that the IEC is all set for the voter registration weekend. At a press briefing held in the Ugu municipality’s boardroom on Monday, Mr Yeni said the IEC was not only ready for the registration weekend but was also set for the 2014 elections.

Mr Yeni outlined the state of the election preparations and said recruitment of staff had been complete as staff had been trained and assessed. “We have engaged in outreach programmes informing people on the importance of voting. We have used the media, social network, billboards and posters to educate and encourage people to register to vote,” he said.

For the registration weekend, stations will be open at 8am and close at 5pm, and each registration station will have two officials. “To check their registration status people can SMS their ID number to 32810,” said Mr Yeni.
