Mother arrested for assaulting daughter (8)

The search is on for the man who allegedly raped the girl.

A MOTHER from Gcilima, near Ramsgate, has been arrested by Margate police for striking her 8-year-old daughter last Friday

Police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka said the woman had left home for work after getting her five children ready for school.

“When she returned at 5.30pm she had noticed that one of her daughters was not at home,” said Captain Mfeka.

The concerned parent went in search of her child and found her later that night.

“According to reports, when she asked the girl where she had been she refused to answer her, whereupon she allegedly hit her with a stick. The child then spoke out and said had been taken by a man who later raped her,” said Capt Mfeka.

“When the police were called they noticed that the young girl had sustained facial injuries. The mother was questioned and arrested for assault.”

The child was taken to hospital and has since been taken to a place of safety. The mother appeared at the Ramsgate court on Monday and the case was postponed.

Police are still searching for the man responsible for allegedly raping the young girl.
