NSRI first responders to Uvongo bike crash

The NSRI team once again did not restrict itself to attempting to save lives only at sea.

WHILE returning to Port Edward from a training exercise at NSRI Shelly Beach last Saturday, NSRI Port Edward rescue crew passed a motorcycle crash involving a father and son in Marine Drive, near Uvongo.

NSRI spokesman, Craig Lambinon said that on arrival NSRI medics found the 45-year-old father dead. “NSRI medics conducted CPR on the 23-year-old son while the alarm was raised,” he said.

Mr Lambinon said when Netcare 911 paramedics arrived they continued with advanced life support CPR for over an hour, but without success. He was declared dead at the scene.

In an unrelated incident,  NSRI Shelly Beach last Sunday launched the sea rescue craft Spirit of Dawn to assist the boat called Reik which had two Gauteng men on board. One of the boat’s motors had failed and the NSRI towed them safely to shore.

Later, Mr Lambinon said that NSRI Shelly Beach received a call about Crackerjack, a boat which had engine failure two nautical miles off-shore of Shelly Beach.

On arrival they found that a local private boat had taken up the tow and they towed the craft to shore.
