NSRI saves lives – in and out of the water

This NSRI crew member went beyond the call of duty.

MARLENE Livingstone, a National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) crew member, went beyond her call of duty when she rendered medical treatment to a man who suffered a severe laceration to his left elbow in a car accident yesterday (Thursday).

While returning to Port Edward on the R61 motorway, Marlene witnessed a bakkie, with three people on the back, roll at the  Ramsgate turn off .

Craig Lambinon, NSRI spokesman, said Marlene called Netcare 911 ambulance services and secured the scene.

She then continued to render medical treatment to the injured man while also monitoring the condition of the driver and passengers until a Netcare 911 ambulance, the police and traffic services arrived on-scene and took over.

The injured man was taken to hospital.
