Traffic officer injured in hit-and-run
A Southbroom motorist knocked down the officer and sped away from the scene.
HIBISCUS Law Enforcement officer Sitford Leroy Mqwebu had a close call after he was run down in Marine Drive, Margate, last Friday.
Police spokesman Captain Gerald Mfeka said Mr Mqwebu (38) was conducting stop and search duties at about 6pm.
“The driver of a white vehicle ignored the request to stop, knocked him down and sped away,” said Captain Mfeka.
Colleagues gave chase and the man was arrested.
The driver (18), from Southbroom, appeared in the Ramsgate Court yesterday (Wednesday).
The case was postponed for further investigation. Officer Mqwebu’s leg was seriously injured, but he has since been released from hospital.
