Police Major sentenced to 10 years for rape

He was granted bail pending application for leave to appeal.

MAJOR Mhlukaniselwa Stoegaan Madlala was sentenced 10 years’ imprisonment for rape in the Port Shepstone Regional Court last Thursday.

Maj Madlala, from Port Shepstone detectives branch, was arrested for raping a woman (32) on November 9, 2007.

After appearing in court on several occasions, the court found him guilty.

Magistrate Johann Bester said even though Madlala had no previous convictions he would still be sentenced because he holds such a high rank in the police.

“Maj Madlala has shown no remorse whatsoever,” said Magistrate Bester. The court also found Maj Madlala unfit to be in possession of any firearm and ammunition. He was given 24 hours to hand over any firearms in his possession.

He was released on bail of R1 000, pending application for leave to appeal.
