Workers escape Marburg fire

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

SEVERAL workers escaped unharmed after a fire engulfed a welding works in Marburg earlier today.

Emergency services, Hibiscus Coast Fire and Rescue and paramedics from KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services, rushed to the scene.

Rob Mckenzie, KZN EMS spokesman, said after the fire started, quick thinking workers removed gas cylinders and buckets of paint, which would have further fuelled the fire, away from the section of the building which had caught alight.

“The section of the building where the fire occurred was extensively damaged, but it was contained to that section only,” he said.

The owner of the factory said that although it wasn’t a good start to the year, he was extremely thankful his staff members weren’t injured.

The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.
