Update: Sea Park accident victim identified

The accident occurred on the R102 last Friday.

THE pedestrian who was knocked down and killed on the R102 in Sea Park last Friday night was struck by a police vehicle.

Alfred James Allen (46), a car guard at Oribi Plaza, is thought to have been walking  home from visiting his sister who lives across the R102 from his house.

“Southport police have opened a culpable homicide docket,” said police spokesman Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

“Mr Allen sustained multiple injuries and died at the scene. The accident occurred at an intersection on the R102 in Sea Park,” she said.

Mr Allen’s sister, Madelaine Bernard, said the family was taking the death of her brother ‘very badly’. “We can’t believe he is no longer with us,” she said.

She added that the driver of the car was apparently an off-duty policeman.

A memorial service will be held at the NG  Church in Port Shepstone this Thursday at 1pm.
