NPO cleans up Margate Ext 7

The Sakhumlando Foundation's future campaigns and initiatives will focus on environmental conservation, skills empowerment, social transformation and community development.

The newly-formed non-profit organisation, Sakhumlando Foundation, recently embarked on a clean-up campaign in Margate Extension 7.

The foundation’s general secretary, Thobeka Mkize, said the campaign aimed to promote community pride, address environmental degradation and foster a culture of responsibility.

She said it was the beginning of the organisation’s efforts to keep coastal communities clean, develop skills, tackle social challenges and uplift residents.

The foundation aims to do more work outside of Ward 6 where they are based.

Mkhize said the campaign saw enthusiastic participation from young people.

“We were motivated by the alarming state of our communities despite municipal efforts. We believe it starts with us to take care of our environment. Our vision extends beyond Ward 6, where the organisation is based, aiming to make a positive impact along the coast and ultimately nationwide,” she said.

She added that the organisation was grateful to the community and volunteers for their overwhelming support and commitment to creating a cleaner and healthier environment.

Mkhize said future campaigns and initiatives will focus on environmental conservation, skills empowerment, social transformation and community development.
