Salt & Peppers add spice to 190s tennis

The league has been extremely well supported.

The Ugu Tennis Association 190s team league has drawn to a close for the year, with some exciting, interesting and entertaining tennis being played.

It proved to be a huge success and was even bigger and better than the inaugural year. More than 70 coastal tennis players took part in the four league fixtures – there were eight teams in the A section and four in the B section.

Securing third place in the A-section are the Young & The Breathless (from left) Justin Hinchliff, Sharn Zietsman, Cheryse Wikstrom and Bjorn Wikstrom.

This year also saw a number of juniors being included in the teams. ProKennex generously sponsored fantastic vouchers and prizes.

Trophies were awarded to the A and B section winners. Medals were awarded for teams placing first, second and third.

Host clubs Tweni, Uvongo and Douglas Mitchell once again provided outstanding hospitality.

The playoff finals were held at the Uvongo and Douglas Mitchell tennis clubs last Saturday.

Johan van Niekerk (Untouchaballs).

In the A league, the winners, Salt & Peppers beat the Untouchaballs 45-31.

The Young & Breathless won the 2 vs 2 match, beating Hawkeye 36-33.

In the 3 vs 3 playoff, Courtets beat Ramsgate Rebels 40-31.

Dare Doubles took third place in the B-section. They are (from left) Rob van der Schyff, Foxy Norton, Jeanne Michau and Kyla Brauteseth.

When it came to the 4 vs 4 game, Broomers saw off the Baseline Bandits 45-30.

In the B league, Serve-Ivors defeated Bravados 53-22.

The 3 vs 4 game saw Dare Doubles beat Racquet Scientists 44-32. Spirit trophy was presented to the Racquet Scientists amid much cheering.

Spirit award goes to the Racquet Scientists, namely Rob Cubbin,Gill Spittal, Mark Hanson, Luise Mohr and Shirley Delaney.
