Art on show at Mbango Valley

The exhibition opens on September 28, the same day as the Mbango Valley Association fête.

Creative Realms art exhibition, to be held at Isivivane Gallery at Mbango Valley Association in Oslo Beach from September 28 to November 19, features the work of local artists Celeste van der Merwe and Maria da Cruz.

Celeste runs the Celestial Art Studio in Uvongo, where she teaches aspiring artists of all ages and levels of experience.

She has been teaching art for 25 years. She studied fine arts at UFS and gained a master’s degree at the Durban University of Technology.

Celeste’s paintings are often inspired by the semi-tropical splendour of KwaZulu-Natal.

Her vibrant art is a celebration of colour and form, much of which reflects local subject matter, embracing the spiritual essence of nature.

Maria studied art at Pretoria University of Technology and with Unisa before embarking on a long-term career in graphic design.

In addition, she studied under several renowned artists, gaining experience in both classical and more contemporary genres.

Her experience in fine art and design has culminated in her current passion for charcoal and pastels, which allow the freedom of style and line, which she uses to capture the mood of her subject.

She is presently enjoying the expressive depiction of local seascapes and nature. Maria also gives art classes at her home in Ramsgate.

Come and support the Mbango Valley Fête on Saturday, September 28 and pop in to chat with the artists at the gallery at the opening of the exhibition from 13:30.
