Water bowser turns firefighting truck

The Palm Beach Ratepayers’ Association recently introduced its water bowser turned firefighting trailer to the community.

Named Phoenix, it will be used to serve Palm Beach and Ward 11 surrounds if and when required.

Chairman James MacKay, a veteran firefighter and paramedic, took the opportunity to demonstrate that an additive extends the effectiveness of water threefold.

During this demonstration, Phoenix continued to deliver the much-needed fluid to the controlled burning brush fire.

Councillor Derek Jula was among those in attendance. He was most impressed by the simplicity and effectiveness of the rig.

Others who were part of the day were Nigel and Ruth Temple-Murray, Gianni Tursini, Dr Jonathan Allen and Naomi Allen.

MacKay explained how the ratepayers realised something urgent needed to be done when veld fires ignited in Palm Beach on July 10 and 11.

“We realised that it was in the best interests of our village to have a water bowser that can serve the elderly, sick and needy with local, easy-to-access water now doubling as a firefighting cart to build our community resilience,” he said.

“We trust that Phoenix will serve the community well in the years ahead.”

James MacKay explains how Phoenix works.
