Electricity out in Port Shepstone and Marburg
Faults have been picked up at substations in Albersville and Port Shepstone.
Most parts of Port Shepstone including Marburg have been without electricity since yesterday (Wednesday), from about 19:00.
According to unofficial information received, a transformer in Marburg is not working. Firstly, a fault was picked up at the substation on Pelican Road, Albersville which affected most parts of Albersville, Palmview and Marburg yesterday.
Earlier this morning another fault was found at the substation in Marburg that affects most parts of Port Shepstone.
According to a source, it’s a suspected cable fault on a breaker at the Marburg substation. “After several fault-finding attempts the transformer tripped. This transformer needs to be tested before it can be deemed fit to be put back into service. Eskom technicians are on site and busy working on the problem.”
According to Cllr Leon Garbade a statement given by Eskom states that tests have been done and an oil sample is on its way for testing to Pietermaritzburg.
“If all goes well with the testing and the oil sample, the power should be restored late this afternoon. If not, it could be some days,” said Leon.
An official response is being awaited from Eskom.
