Another by-election for Ward 24

The ward councillor, Nkosingiphile Ndlela, died in June this year.

It’s mixed emotions for the people of Ward 24 in Betania, Bomela and Nyandezulu, as they will have to elect a new councillor in a by-election on September 11.

The ward councillor, Nkosingiphile Ndlela, died in June this year.

People of these areas have varying opinions since some staunch ANC members have jumped ship and joined uMkhonto weSizwe Party (MK).

The candidates are Themba Zondi – MK, Thabiso Jingela – ANC and Sbonelo Mbhele – IFP.

In 2021, James Ndovela was elected as the ward councillor, however, he resigned a year later after he got his job back at Ugu District Municipality, as he was one of the 119 workers who were dismissed in 2019 and re-instated in October 2022.

In March 2023, Ndlela was elected as councillor.

The IEC in the district said that two by-elections have been scheduled, namely, Wards 14 and 24 in Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

Voters are urged to take along their green barcoded ID books, smart ID cards and/or a valid temporary ID book.
