Track Torque: An Oscar won in Formula One

The season is now more than halfway through, with 13 of the 24 races having been held.

Oscar Piastri made himself and all of Australia proud by claiming his first grand prix win in securing victory at the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The Australian was on fire on Sunday, driving extremely smoothly and looking after his tyres very well.

It was a well-deserved win, and with teammate Lando Norris only two seconds behind him at the finish, it made for a wonderful 1-2 for McLaren.

Unfortunately, Norris was not happy as he had been given a very strange request to let Piastri go past him just before the end of the race.

The reason given was that Norris had been given an advantage by pitting first while Piastri was in the lead.

This decision resulted in Norris coming out on top after the pit stops, which was unfair on Piastri as he had been leading the race for so long.

Was this fair?

Lewis Hamilton, however, was delighted with his third place on the podium after a race-long battle with Max Verstappen.

Verstappen had two offs due to this battle and was also very unlucky to not be on the podium.

Charles Leclerc, in the first Ferrari, did very well to earn fourth place, with Verstappen only two seconds behind in fifth spot.

The Dutchman was bemused, and for a change, he was the one who was wondering.

Carlos Sainz was next up in sixth position after a very solid race in the second Ferrari, while Sergio Perez did well, for a change, to finish seventh in the sister Red Bull.

George Russell had a difficult weekend, not all of his making, but kept it all together to at least be in the points in ninth position.

The final points position was taken by Lance Stroll, who did well to just hold his off his fiery teammate Fernando Alonso.

Daniel Ricciardo, although only finishing 12th, did a decent job all weekend and was unlucky not to have been higher up.

We look forward, with great enthusiasm, to the last race of the first half of the season before the summer break, namely the wonderful Belgian Grand Prix at Spa Francorchamps.

It’s always a sight to behold with its high-speed corners sweeping through the Ardennes forest.

The superfast McLarens may just do it again, but Verstappen will be doing his utmost to make this prophecy wrong.
