With the aim to bring the community of Margate together, a 5-a-side street soccer tournament will be held at Seaslopes on Sunday, July 28.

Organised by Samkelo Cele, the tournament aims to promote community engagement, teamwork, and a love for soccer by providing a platform for local talent to
shine.

Cele said the tournament promises to unite passionate players, fans, and the wider community for thrilling soccer action and camaraderie.

He said teams wishing to enter must consist of five players and two substitutes.

He added that teams will also compete in a knockout to decide the winner.

The entry fee is R100 per team.

“We are targeting individuals aged 16 and above who are passionate about soccer and looking to compete at a community level. We are also targeting teams and clubs that are seeking opportunities for competition, networking, and skills development. We also want families and friends to come along and cheer for players. We also invite Margate residents to attend and enjoy the games,” he said.

Cele said the tournament is designed to bring together local soccer enthusiasts in a competitive yet friendly environment, saying that the concept revolves around small-sided games that are fast-paced and exciting, ensuring maximum engagement and enjoyment for players and spectators alike.

He added: “Building on the success of our previous two tournaments, which saw tremendous participation and positive feedback, we aim to elevate this event to new heights. Our vision is to create an even more memorable experience for participants and spectators, fostering a spirit of sportsmanship, teamwork, and community pride,” he said.
