Help Gouveia play rugby in France

The young sportsman is trying to raise funds to make his dream of playing overseas possible.

Shayden Gouveia (17) of Port Shepstone High has been selected for a rugby tour to France/Italy in December.

The Grade 11 learner is a talented all-round sportsman.

He has full colours for swimming, is vice-captain of the water polo first team, has full colours for cricket, and has been in the first team since Grade 8.

“Give me a ball, bat, pool, and I’m there giving it my best,” said Gouveia.

Now, Gouveia from Sunwich Port has a chance to represent his country in France.

The teen is a team player, loves rugby and has played first-team rugby since Grade 10.

He made SKZN in Grades 10 and 11 and is hopeful that in Grade 12, he will make the KZN Sharks team.

Last year, he was selected for the SKZN UI6 Sub-Union team and had the privilege to tour Frankfort (Free State) with the help of sponsorships.

“I made new friends and enjoyed the memories made and the experience I gained,” he said.

He has now been selected again for the SKZN U19 Rugby Sub-Union team.

The Union thought Frankfort was not cold enough for us last year, and the team this year went to the VKB Rugby Festival in Rietz in the Free State last month.

“My position is outside centre, and I played really well. I scored two tries in the first game,” said Gouveia.

At this festival, he was chosen to tour France in December.

However, he needs to raise funds to make his dream possible.

“I am humbled and grateful to get this opportunity to represent my school and country. I know this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to showcase my talent and, in turn, to gain as much experience as I can,” he said.

If anyone can help, they can contact his mother, Anisabel, on 082 8319915.
