Elvis is king at caddie regional

The winner from each region progresses to play at the KZN Champion of Champions held at Kloof in September.

Elvis Khawula (Margate CC) rolled back the years with a superb score of 73 to win the regional Caddies’ Champion of Champions.

Despite not playing much golf of late, he produced the goods and was delighted with the result.

Elvis, who shares a birthday with the late Nelson Mandela, played off a 3.4 handicap index on the day.

The tournament, presented by the South Coast Region Ladies’ Golf Association (SCRLGA) and GolfRSA, was held at Port Shepstone Country Club on Monday last week.

Sandi Burger (SCRLGA president) said she was thrilled with the turnout of 46 golfers.

She explained that in 2022, GolfRSA added a caddie division in the KZN Champion of Champions tournament.

GolfRSA then partnered with the KZN Ladies’ Golf Association to host five regional qualifying 18-hole tournaments.

The winner from each region progresses to play at the KZN Champion of Champions held at Kloof in September.

The caddies making it through to the Kloof finals have all their travel, accommodation and food paid for by GolfRSA.

This event has grown and is now in its third year.

Elvis will now progress to the next round at Kloof, where he will compete against the other four regions’ champions.

The winner there will have an all expenses paid trip to compete at the national finals in October.
