One of the region’s more seasoned athletes, Ilhaam Amod, represented Ugu in the recent KZN Elite Women’s Cup in Tongaat.
She won a gold medal in the 16/17 kumite division and a bronze medal in her 16/17 kata division.

Ilhaam was joined by a group of development athletes representing Ugu Karate in the KZN Development Championships held at the same time.
The group of developing athletes did the region proud by bringing home a number of medals in their respective categories.
Ugu Karate chairman Coenie Vrey said a group of young and upcoming karateka have qualified as Ugu coaches.
He complimented them in the way that they assisted the development of athletes at the tournament.
“We have a lot of young talent in Ugu, and the successful development of karate in the region looks set to continue.”
