Wilko is new Sheppie Lions’ president

Club members have been involved in numerous community projects over the past year.

The Lions Club of Port Shepstone celebrated its 54th annual presidential induction and awards dinner at the den at Port Shepstone Country Club.

Past Council Chairman Paul Brauteseth formally inducted Lion Wilko Kunz as club president for the 2024/2025 fiscal year.

Wilko thanked his predecessor for his leadership of the club and undertook to continue the club’s legacy of fellowship, friendship and service.

Bev Rolfe has agreed to serve as the Lion Ladies’ President for the forthcoming year.

Guests of honour included prospective Lion Pete Surtees and his wife Mary from the UK.

Outgoing president Mike Heathcote paid tribute to both the Port Shepstone Lions and Lion Ladies for a very successful year of community service and fundraising projects.

These projects included providing ongoing support to South Coast Hospice, Reinhardt’s Place, Assisi Mission Orphanage, Hibiscus Food For Life and Suid Natal ‘Kospakke Kinders’.

The club also successfully hosted its annual Lions Leadership Retreat.

Senior citizen’s projects during the year included the annual Christmas luncheon held at Port Shepstone Country Club main hall, monthly games afternoons and hundreds of frozen meals provided on a monthly basis.

The club was also involved with the sponsorship of 15 cataract operations for needy recipients during Sight Week in October last year.

Club President’s appreciation medals were presented to Denis Meyer and Phillip De Beer in recognition of their outstanding commitment to the club.

Stirrer of the Year went to Barry van der Veen, while a special ‘Tappit’ award was presented to Steve McCarroll.

Club secretary and treasurer medals were presented to Denis Meyer and Richard Borradaile, respectively.

Outgoing Lion Lady President Sandy Heathcote praised the Port Shepstone Lion Ladies for their many projects in support of the needy.

Appreciation gifts were presented to Estelle O’Neill and Jane Massey, and the Lion Lady of the Year award was presented to Anna Compion.
