OPINION: The aftermath – Hang your head and cry

"It is the citizens of our land that ended up poorer."

My dear fellow South Africans, I suppose I could not have expected less from our Number One citizen other than what he said at the IEC ROC closing ceremony.

How arrogant were we in the weeks and months leading up to May 29.

How superior we felt and cock-strutted the walk of walks because we are great, were great and shall be great.

Thank heavens, some of the populace were bold enough to say no. Enough! Time for a change.

Pity that more did not follow that ideology, but this is a start in the right direction towards pulling our beautiful land out of this downward spiral to total collapse.

Strange to see Number One now lauding the rival parties and directing them to stand together for the goal of building the country up.

Well, pray tell me who wrecked it to start with?

Now ‘we’ must bind, like a rugby scrum, and save our land with not so much as an acknowledgement that the 30 year government has failed.

Well, failed the citizens but did not fail to let the authorities line their collective pockets.

After all, these comrades did not join the ANC to be poor – and, unfortunately, it is the citizens of our land that ended up the poorer.

Batho Pele, what a joke! Mzanzi, really?
