Hope for families with addicts

The meeting will be in Umtentweni.

There are a number of organisations and support groups that deal with alcohol addiction, but it is rare to hear about support systems for the families of addicts.

Be it a husband, wife, friend or child – here is an opportunity for every victim affected by an addict.

The Al-Anon Family Group’s fellowship is coming to the Ugu District this month.
This fellowship is similar to Narcotics Anonymous or Alcoholics Anonymous and aims to help people heal.

It can be seen as a safe home away from home and helps people deal with the trauma, depression or anxiety they may have experienced while living with an addict.

Mid-South Coast recovery NPO, Laqhakaza Iphara has collaborated with Al-Anon, an international fellowship, to try and help people from the South Coast.

“Living with addicts is a struggle, and people often get manipulated, lied to and eventually hit rock bottom because of another’s wrongdoings,” explained Emmanuel Msomi from Laqhakaza Iphara.

“It is a sad reality faced in many households, and we would like to offer support to these victims.”

Al-Anon will have a gathering at the Umtentweni Library on April 20, where people are invited to learn from the experience, strength and hope shared by others. Refreshments will be served from 11:30 to 12:30 and, thereafter, the meeting will commence and is expected to end at about 14:00.

A limited number of seats are available. Contact 079 9952023 to find out more.
