Regional hospital promotes staff wellness

Staff members are encouraged to actively participate in the wellness programme and take advantage of the opportunities provided to prioritise their health and fitness.

The Port Shepstone Regional Hospital recently launched its wellness programme aimed at enhancing the health and the overall well-being of its employees.

“Last week, the hospital staff participated in a taebo session, marking the beginning of an exciting journey toward improved wellness in 2024,” said the hospital’s PRO Phumza Morai.

“Led by experienced instructor, Mondli Nzama from Oshabeni, the taebo class offered tailored physical challenges that catered to the physical needs of the participants. Understanding the demanding nature of hospital work, the programme emphasised the importance of regular physical activity for its numerous benefits, including stress reduction, mood enhancement, and immune system support. In addition to taebo classes, the hospital wellness programme also includes 30 minute walks scheduled regularly on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, accommodating staff from all hospital departments,” said Morai.

She added that staff members have the opportunity to engage in soccer practise sessions every Thursday and Saturday, and later participate in games and leagues with other teams under Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
Morai said the wellness initiative reflects the hospital’s unwavering commitment to supporting the health and well-being of its employees.

She said by providing enjoyable outlets for energetic workouts, the hospital aims to improve cardiovascular health, enhance strength, and reduce employee stress levels.

“We are thrilled to launch these wellness initiatives, which prioritise the health, and well-being of our staff as our goal is to create a positive and supportive environment where employees can thrive both personally and professionally.”

The hospital management encourages all staff members to actively participate in the wellness programme and take advantage of the opportunities provided to prioritise their health and fitness.
