‘Removing’ red tape for investors

The workshop was hosted in partnership with Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal.

The South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE) recently launched the Ugu District One Stop Shop (OSS) at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre.
The shop located on 16 Bisset Street in Port Shepstone was supposed to be opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony, but the KZN MEC for Economic Development,
Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Siboniso Duma did not arrive, so the event was turned into a workshop.
The workshop was hosted in partnership with Trade and Investment KwaZulu-Natal (TIKZN).

Showcasing their business are Mbalenhle Nhlumayo (left) and Vuyelwa Mkhathi.

Its acting CEO, Sihle Ngcamu said the primary aim of the OSS is to provide strategic guidance, reduce regulatory inefficiencies, and reduce red tape for all investors.
“Whether you’re selling in a mall, manufacturing, providing services, or moving or transporting goods… all of these are contributing to the growth of our economy. However, businesses are facing several challenges that decrease their profits. Some are policy-driven and some process-driven. So, how can we make doing business easier? The government is here to provide an environment that is conducive to businesses to be sustainable and to thrive. One of those programmes is the One Stop Shop services so that businesses don’t have to move from door-to-door or office to office just to see one department. All [services] will be in one place. Today we are discussing how we can make doing business easier,” said Ngcamu.

Attending the workshop are Nonsindiso Ncama (left) and Nokukhanya Dube of Carrot House Bakery.

The workshop was attended by small businesses such as Out of Woods, Pour Bake, Good to Glow, AS Flowers & Gifts, Sunny Rock B&B, Amandlenkosi Farms and JayChem.
Speaking on behalf of South Coast Tourism and Investment Enterprise (SCTIE), deputy chairperson of the board, Nongcebo Vukile McKenzie, said: “We are deeply appreciative to all partners and stakeholders – among them TIKZN and InvestSA – for making this OSS a reality. This is the fourth OSS being launched and we look forward to what will come from making doing business easier.”
CEO of SCTIE, Phelisa Mangcu said: “We proactively package investment opportunities, link business to government, market business offerings, and now we have the One Stop Shop. We develop rural tourism products, attracting visitors to the hinterland region to support small businesses as well. In doing that, we are diversifying the region’s products beyond the ocean offerings, while supporting emerging growth sectors.”
