OPINION: Heartfelt thanks to a wonderful community

"When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure."

It’s the green memorial bench overlooking the ocean at Shad Bay parking area in Manaba, where Carl Nel loved to fish from the rocks, and Rambo and I used to sit there and watch him. It was our favourite spot.

Everyone that knew Carl, knew him as a loving, kind and helpful husband, dad and friend, always willing to do what he could and he was always so positive. He was very strict when it came to his work and always said that if you don’t work according to the system, everything will fall apart and he had no patience with lazy people. He was also a very neat person and his work and life also reflected that.

He was so full of life but after being diagnosed with heart failure seven years ago, his health started to deteriorate and there was not much the doctors could do. We all knew it was just a matter of time and we are grateful for the years that he was in our lives, as he filled it with lots of love, caring and kindness.

With this we would just like to give our heartfelt thanks to everyone that stood by us during this difficult time. Shona, the Earth Angel from South Coast Herald, who went above and beyond and stood by us and helped us so much. Above All Funeral Parlour that organised and helped with Carl’s cremation and all the document processing and their excellence in it. The Engar family of Shell Manaba for being there, Trevor Ogle and his family, Younus Moosa and Lucky’s Discount Centre, everyone that knew Carl and cared for him and our friends and family and everyone for their condolences and who helped us during this difficult time.

We appreciate all of you so, so much and there will never be enough words to tell you how thankful we are for all that you did and are still doing to help us through this.
May you all be blessed. We are forever grateful to all of you.

When someone you love becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure and Carl will always be treasured in our hearts.

SOPHIA, CHRIS and RUDI NEL
