Top pitching small businesses shared a prize pot of R250 000 in the Esayidi TVET Singatha and Rapid Incubator’s Global Entrepreneurship Month Competition recently.

A ceremony was held at the college hall to celebrate the winners which was attended by officials from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) and South Coast Tourism Investment and Enterprise (SCTIE).
Some R200 000 was sponsored by RNM.

Simon April, spokesperson for RNM said he admires the incredible journey the small business owners have embarked on, leading them to the final day of the programme.
He reminded the SMMEs that they have the potential to transform lives and contribute to the fabric of society.

“Your innovations have the power to uplift generations to come,” said April.

The first prize winner in the community category, Pearl Dotsha of Khbevu Agricultural Business (middle) receives a cheque from Jobina Chappen and Mdu Cele.

He affirmed that RNM is committed to supporting aspiring entrepreneurs.
Singatha’s manager, Jobina Chappen said it has been a month-long journey with the SMMEs, starting from the master class, exhibitions and the pitching competition.
Chappen said the SMMEs were divided into three categories, community (Gcilima and KwaNzimakwe), Singatha and Rapid Incubator participants.

“Three winners were selected from the community category, and the top five each from Singatha and Rapid Incubator.”

She said from the community category the fourth and fifth placed businesses will be allowed to be part of the Singatha Incubator this year.

Chappen thanked all the SMMEs for being part of the programme and the stakeholders and staff for making it a success.

Nonkululeko Hlongawana from SCTIE encouraged the SMMEs to work hard in their businesses, especially those who had received funding.

“As government entities our duty can be compared to that of a midwife. We are responsible for assisting your businesses in their visions, however we do not know where you want your business to go. It is the business owner who knows exactly what they need and all we can do is provide guidance, “said Hlongwana.

She emphasised that business owners should know themselves, be willing to learn and ensure their growth.
