State of toilets repulses reader

To think that this would be allowed in a government organisation, let alone a public facility, is beyond comprehension.

Never have I been, and hope never again to be, as disgusted as I was with the public ladies’ toilets at the Sassa offices in Gamalakhe.
It’s a breeding ground for any and every possible disease.

There was only one toilet with a door that has to be kept open with a brick. If you require the door to be closed I would highly recommend you think again.

The stench in the toilet and surrounds comes not only from absolute filth but from months of human excrement in the toilet and around the base of the toilet, together with filthy toilet paper blocking the toilet.

The cistern is filthy with ‘goggas’ and there is no water for flushing whatsoever.
The hand basin would challenge any right-minded person.
To think that this would be allowed in a government organisation, let alone a public facility, is beyond comprehension.

RESPONSE from Sassa KZN:
We apologise for the unpleasant encounter the client experienced when visiting one of our local offices.
The toilets at Gamalakhe local office are cleaned up regularly by the cleaning company.
Due to the water challenge in the Ugu District there is a likelihood that the client might have attempted to use the toilet when there was no water.
Clients are always advised not to use the toilets when there is no water but others do not heed the notice.
We are going to ensure that the cleaning service provider cleans the toilets at regular intervals and ensures that we store water in containers for use when we experience water cuts.
