From the Bowling Greens

There's an exciting new tournament lined up for the new year.

SOUTHBROOM
A new and exciting tri-club competition, the Hibiscus Brokers SuperTrips, involving Southbroom, Margate and Riverside bowling clubs will commence in January 2024 and continue until November 2024.
The prizes will exceed a fantastic R50 000 sponsored by Hibiscus Brokers.
On the last Thursday of every month, 36 open teams will play, strength versus strength.
The format is three skins of six ends but with a twist – after each skin, members change position such that everyone will play lead, second and skip in the match.
Each club will host 12 teams every month; the monthly prize money is R1000 per green.
The last round will involve all 36 teams at Margate, when the overall winning team will receive R9000, the runners up R6000 and third R3000.
Southbroom BC president, Cleve Walker, said that the novel format will help with player development and should attract a strong field.
“Hibiscus Brokers have always been good sponsors of bowls at many clubs, and we are delighted that they have come aboard for the SuperTrips. Being able to offer really good prize money adds a new perspective to what is one of the most played sports in the country and we have already received more than 20 entries,” he said.

HIBBERDENE
The drawn mixed trips, sponsored by Hibberdene Spar, was won by Eddie Milne, Alida Munnik and Elize Duvenage.
In second place were Albert Munnik, Les Horner and Maureen du Toit. Session was won by Bez Bezuidenhout, Brian Mertz and Joey Venter.

A very successful fundraiser was held last weekend, supported by Port Shepstone CC, Umtentweni and Hibberdene.
One hundred and twelve people enjoyed their day on the greens.
Winners of the Merlo Hardware sponsored fundraiser were Sharolyn and Keiron Dacey along with Steve O’Moore and Winnie Hess.
Second were David and Brandon Nicholas with Tony Aveyard and Cedric Miles.
Albert and Alida Munnik with Bez and Bubbles Bezuidenhout took third place.
