Red against Red but golf the winner

There was a lot of friendly banter.

Manchester United FC supporters triumphed over their archrivals Liverpool in the 16th annual Pro-Vision golf day at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday.
By a mere point!

Liverpool, with 43 players, scored 1189 points. Manchester United, with 46 players, scored 1318 points. Thus, United won with an average of 28,65 to Liverpool’s 27,65.

The field of 93 players surpassed the previous record of 84.
It was a day tinged with sadness as United captain Bupen Prakash had to withdraw following the death of his father.

His team came to fore for him, motivated to bring the family some joy in the difficult circumstances. Sanolin Pather accepted the trophy, happily, on his behalf.

Liverpool, meanwhile, were playing in memory of stalwart Pete Stoppel who died earlier this year.
Port Shepstone CC captain Bevis Fairbrother, traditionally a United man, played for the Reds this year in tribute to his good mate Stoppy.

He was full of praise for Pro-Vision on the day, which was held in conjunction with the Port Shepstone Andhra Sabha, who have had their planned golf day rained out twice.

Their festive presence was seen and felt, with wonderful support on the 3rd and 14th tees, and some seriously tasty snacks.

“What a fantastic day, well done Pro-Vision… you all rock. Congratulations to United on the golf course, but, sadly, not on the football field,” he said, in reference to United’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle. Wes, sorry I let you down. Bupen, our thoughts and prayers are with you, but your team did you proud,” said Bevis.

Where’s my ball… and my trophy? Wes Scholtz finds things a little tougher going than hoped for.

Liverpool captain Wesley Scholtz, who sang You Will Never Walk Alone at prizegiving, said Liverpool may have lost the golf but he took consolation in that his beloved club secured three points in the Premier League later that day.

This was a close thing, with two late goals needed to deny Fulham a rare win at Anfield. Result 4-3.
The meal afterwards was sponsored by Dr Kanaya Maharaj of Connor Med.

Top five per team:
Liverpool – Geven Jack 39 points, Loyiso Gqowana 39, Rajen Naidoo 38, Andrea Rabie 36, Sbu Ntozakhe 36. Manchester United – London Nzama 41 points, Nathi Mtombeni 38, Thulani Xolo 37, Wonderboy Nxumalo 37, Eric Mlambo 37.
Pro-Vision’s annual awards function will take place at the Port Shepstone Country Club this Saturday at 18:00.
