Wayne Simpson strolls to victory

Scottburgh Golf Club's latest news and results.

It looked a bit stormy last Wednesday for our individual Stableford which was also a trial run for Saturday’s game. Wayne Simpson who is in excellent form at the moment strolled in with 34 points to win by one from Nick Klopper who in turn beat Deane Jooste into third place also by one.

Deane using his driver as a putter (as is his want) rolled in a 2 club along with John Mills for a tidy bonus. Org Viviers who has had his head in the clouds, just lately, came down with a bump as he picked up the Stone.

Saturday it was all aboard for the Umthunzi hotel individual game. There was an unusually early tee off time for captain Bob Hall as his partners all rabid Sharks supporters wanted to get back for the game. They might as well have gone off last and avoided a miserable pathetic showing and for their support Bob’s partners all received a fine.

Dave Meredith is always here to play but very seldom does he win anything but the Stone for which he is a regular supporter. On Saturday however, Dave got the biggest cheer for a long time as he scored 38 points to win his first and most prestigious game ever, better than the Sharks. Steven Myburgh was left in the wake with 36 for second place and Wayne Simpson (the favourite) came in third with 35.

It was Wayne’s day as he also took nearest the pin on the 5th and rolled in the only 2 club for a R200 bonus then had the audacity to win the bore hole depth competition. John Mills was nearest on the 10th and Byron Stander took the 17th.We didn’t find the hidden holes but Thay Govender found the weight of the Stone.

P&G Construction will be sponsoring this Saturday’s (9th) game.

Flyer’s footnote: There are approximately 2 540 reasons why a player hits a bad shot, and more are being found daily.
