Spring clean for Scottburgh CBD

According to Umdoni Municipality acting mayor Mthandeni Mbutho the vagrants who had taken over the town were removed from the streets, public ablution blocks and the market area.

Umdoni Law Enforcement and Scottburgh Saps recently started preparing for the festive season by removing vagrants ‘paras’ from the Scottburgh CBD.

According to Umdoni Municipality acting mayor Mthandeni Mbutho the vagrants who had taken over the town were removed from the streets, public ablution blocks and the market area.

Mbutho said all their belongings which included mattresses and blankets among other things were removed thus leaving the town clean.

“Their occupation of the CBD had become an eyesore for visitors and something had to be done. For an extended period, the filth caused by these individuals has posed a health hazard to people hence the decisive action to remove them,” said Mbutho.

He added that it has been noted by the municipality that the contributing factor to the rise of the vagrants is the money they get when they direct vehicles at parking lots.

Mbutho said the public is urged to not give them money or request the paras to wash their cars.
“Umdoni Municipality together with the Saps will ensure that the town stays clear of these vagrants going forward, to ensure the CBD remains safe for all,” said Mbutho.
