Scotties athletes fly flag high in Nelspruit

Several athletes made their personal bests.

Some members of Scottburgh Athletics Club entered the Kaapsehoop marathon and half marathon in Nelspruit last Saturday.

The race was well organised by the Nelspruit Marathon Club on the picturesque road between the village of Kaapsehoop and Nelspruit.

Kaapsehoop is considered a fast downhill race, however every race has challenging hills – and Kaapsehoop was no different.

Vicky Lunga and Lucky Zama had a great marathon.

It was an early start for the runners as bus transport was organised from 02:30 to the start with the finish at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

Lucky Zama and Trevor Hay both competed in their first official marathon with incredible times. Dana Daniels completed in the 42km always smiling as she does. Heather Stanton and Linda Hay got their personal bests in the half marathon.

Results are as follows:
42km: Trevor Hay 04:10:03; Dana Daniels 04:17:38; Lucky Zama 04:35:26; Janeen Botha 05:09:56 and Zibuyile (Vicky) Lunga 06:00:09.
21km: Linda Hay 02:21:48 and Heather Stanton 02:21:49.

Well done to all who entered and travelled far to keep the Scotties flag flying high.
