Phiwa powers to matchplay title

The quality of the golf was quite outstanding.

Phiwa Mkhoma, who holds a coastal membership, won the matchplay at Port Shepstone Country Club last Sunday.

He’s no stranger to championship titles, having won the strokeplay on a number of occasions.
In the final he really turned it on, making eight birdies in 13 holes, offset by a lone bogey, en route to beating 14 year-old Cameron Olivant 6/5.

Cameron, the club’s junior captain, was only one over par at the time.
Phiwa beat Kirk Larsen and Gavin van Wyk to book his spot in the final, while Cameron defeated Sidney Shingange and Gerry Terblanche.

In other competitions, Rob Calder and Tony Tarr won the betterball last Wednesday on 50 points, three ahead of Cameron Olivant and Colin Nel on 47 points.

In third place on 46 points were Charles Hulley and Louise Snyman.
The D’arcy Dental Monthly Mug was won by Paul Bunge on nett 69, who shot 81 off his 12 handicap.
Stewart Betts won the B division on nett 71 and Rob Calder won the C division on nett 70.
Individual Stableford was won by Jenny Hulley on 34 points.
